How to clean sand in aquarium

Sand is the popular substrate and used mostly in salt water aquarium. The sand also has the properties that the waste of food does not go into the bottom of the aquarium.
I.e. why, it is used as medium to filter water in sand filters. Tools we will need to clean sand are vacuum gravel cleaner & bucket. The tool create vacuum when the water flow through it. Due to which dust particle flow out.

Instructions for cleaning sand in aquarium.

1. Now we will fill the water in the suction pipe and let the water flow into the bucket. It’s better to use bucket then wash basin because it can clog water due to sand. And everybody’s knows how interestingly boring to clean wash basin which is clogged. keehee !

2. Handling the suction pipe is easy just dip the mouth of the pipe in the aquarium and fill the water. The vacuum gravel cleaner have simple suction pipe.

3. Try not to dip inside the sand, just above the surface slowly all the waste will be pushed into the bucket, due to vacuum built up by tool. The reason for not to dip the tool inside is that it can create cloudy water and the waste food or dust particle cannot penetrate the sand layer , unless there is fish whose natural habitat is sand.

4.To clean properly we should also remove the decorative objects inside the aquarium as the waste food or dead plants can hide. I tried several times without removing the objects but removing the objects helps in better cleaning of aquarium.

5. Another way is that we can stir the water using wood or finger & pump can filter the waste food & dust particle.

6. Battery based vacuum cleaner is also available in pet shops; actually they have a fitted pump in the tool. These are battery powered.

The regular cleaning of Aquarium sand is important as It can build up algae. Small portion of algae is ok as some fishes eat it as food source too good veg food its not complete food for fish though, but it is better to get rid of algae it grows fast and very difficult to control also, it can cause high oxygen dissolve in water in day time which can be inflammatory to parts of fish bodies. We should also prepare sand before introducing sand to aquarium or it can be toxic.
